Pre-delivery inspection (PDI)

A PDI checks a machine’s condition, safety features and operation before customer handoff. Our general checklist covers common inspection areas for compact equipment and attachments, without tying it to one brand or model.

2-page printable PDF · No account needed · Revised September 2, 2026

Use Pass, Needs attention or N/A for each applicable check, with space for findings, corrections and a final review. A blank checklist is not proof that a machine has been inspected.

What the checklist covers

1. Exterior & walk-around

  • Check shipping damage, frame, panels, guards and visible fasteners.
  • Inspect boom, arms, blade and working tools; check visible pins and retainers.
  • Check identification plates, safety labels, glass and mirrors, as equipped.

2. Tracks, wheels & undercarriage

  • Inspect tracks or tires, wheels and running gear for damage or unusual wear.
  • Check track tension or tire pressure using the applicable manual procedure.
  • Check rollers, idlers, sprockets, axles and required fastener checks, as equipped.

3. Engine & fuel system

  • Inspect engine mounts, covers, belts and hoses using the manual procedure.
  • Check fuel type, fuel system, caps and visible signs of leakage or contamination.
  • Inspect air intake, filter, cooling components and exhaust, as equipped.

4. Hydraulics & connections

  • Visually inspect hoses, fittings and routing for damage, rubbing or leakage.
  • Inspect accessible cylinders, rods, seals, pumps and valves for visible faults.
  • Check couplings, protective caps and service labels; record any required follow-up.

5. Electrical, lights & instruments

  • Check battery mounting, terminals and wiring condition using safe procedures.
  • Check lights, horn, alarms and indicators, as equipped and specified.
  • Check displays, hour meter and charging indicators; investigate fault warnings.

6. Operator station & safety devices

  • Check steps, handholds, platform or cab, doors and latches, as equipped.
  • Inspect seat, restraints, guards and protective structure, as equipped.
  • Check controls, interlocks and emergency-stop devices by the manual procedure.

7. Fluids & lubrication

  • Check applicable fluid levels with the machine positioned as the manual specifies.
  • Verify fluid grades and service needs against the exact machine and engine manuals.
  • Service applicable grease points; record any fluids, parts and work performed.

8. Controlled operation & shutdown

  • Follow startup and warm-up procedures; check for unusual noise, smoke or warnings.
  • Check travel, steering, brakes and working functions in a clear area per the manual.
  • Follow safe shutdown, then recheck for leaks, loose parts or other concerns.

9. Attachments & included options

  • Confirm the attachment fits the machine and its rated operating requirements.
  • Inspect mount, locking mechanism, required pins and hydraulic connections.
  • Verify secure engagement and applicable functions by the attachment manual.

10. Documents & customer handoff

  • Match model and serial details; provide the applicable manuals and included items.
  • Review safe operation, daily checks, maintenance and support contact information.
  • Record findings, corrective work, recheck results and the handoff decision.

A general checklist for compact equipment and attachments, across brands and models. Check only items that apply to the machine and mark the rest N/A. This is not a trailer inspection form.

The checklist is general; the specifications are not. Inspection and testing should be completed by a trained, qualified person. Use the exact machine and attachment manuals for fluid types, torque, pressures and test procedures. Do not release equipment with an unresolved safety concern.

Helpful starting points

Short guidance from 99 Equipment. Always follow the current manual for your exact machine.

Start with the right manual

Match the full model, serial number, engine and control layout to the document. A model family such as R10 or RS06 is a starting point, not confirmation that every version uses the same parts or procedures. Send us a photo of the identification plates if you are unsure.

Before your first job

Read the applicable operator manual and arrange a hands-on handoff before operating. Review the controls, safety devices, attachment locking and stopping procedure. Keep people clear of the work area. If anything is damaged, leaking, loose or unfamiliar, stop and ask for help.

Keep a simple maintenance record

Record the date, hour-meter reading, work performed, fluids and parts used, and receipts. Use the intervals, fluid grades, capacities and procedures specified for your exact machine and engine; do not assume one specification fits every Rippa model.

Make a parts request easier

Include the model and serial number, a clear photo of the part and its location, and the parts-manual page or reference number if you have it. We still need to confirm fit before ordering, especially when a model has multiple versions.

When to stop and contact support

Do not continue using a machine with a suspected safety fault. Keep people clear and use the safe shutdown instructions in the applicable manual. Pressure adjustments, hydraulic leaks, electrical faults and lifting or support procedures need model-specific guidance and a qualified technician. This website is not an emergency service.
